“LETTING GO”    

I love to swim in the sea. The seafloor garden is a rich resource of inspiration of animals and plants, swaying in rhythm with the moving water. I find myself letting go as I float and feel the push and pull of the tides and swell.

Until now, the vessels I’m building are controlled and carefully built.

I ask myself; can I connect the feeling of floating, the pushing and the pulling of the tide and swell into a vessel?

I use gravity as a force and build these vessels upside down, using the clays’ density to find a ribbon like structure.  I don’t have much time, just a gentle push and pull - here and there. And then like the water which has moved on, the time to manipulate is gone, as the clay forms a memory very quickly.

The glaze I use for this Kelp Series is lightly applied, with the intention to quietly sit amongst the iron specks, mimicking the coarse sand on my local beaches.
