The Story Behind the Work

Discover the creative journey, inspiration and experiences that have shaped Sandie's ceramics, mosaics and sculptures.

Hello and thanks for dropping by!

Sandie Wright is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. As a former busy teacher inspired by learning through creating, she decided to follow her passion for art, completing a Diploma in Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) at Monash University. With her love of colour, nature and imagination, she has created large sculptural mosaics, murals and bronze works, which have a narrative/story telling focus. A notable project is a commemorative WW1 Poppy Mosaic sponsored by The Department of Veterans' Affairs.

She is an active member of the Sculptors Association Victoria, the M.A.A.N.Z. Mosaic Association and The Australian Ceramics Association. She exhibits and sells regularly in art shows and local galleries.

I love COLOUR
I love NATURE
I love IMAGINATION

Since 2023 she has concentrated on ceramics, exploring different clay types and finishes using a variety of oxides, glazes and stains. She draws on her local environment, which is a rich resource of underwater wonder of plant and animal diversity, to create her hand-built vessels. She is exploring themes of connection and propulsion and the in between spaces of air and water.

I happily take commissions on my Apple sculptures and ceramic vessels.

Happy exploring
Sandie
